What is Mild Hyperbaric Therapy?
- Mild Hyperbaric Therapy (HBT) is a safe method of delivering more oxygen to the body at the cellular level.
-HBT provides the optimal environment for the body to carry out vital cell processes, thereby increasing the capacity for the body to heal itself.
-HBT utilizes filtered pressurized ambient air to dissolve oxygen directly into the plasma, cerebral and spinal fluids, flooding tissues and vital organs with oxygen.
-Mild Hyperbaric Therapy allows for healing at the cellular level, which is critical for changes to be made which in turn affect healthy tissue formation, making it possible for a healthier organs and ultimately a healthier body overall. |
| |
Is it Safe?
-YES! The hyperbaric chamber uses filtered ambient air, so there is no risk of oxygen toxicity to the body even with regular use.
-The chamber can be depressurized and opened from the inside.
-Once inside the chamber, both visual and verbal communication is possible with the outside, and there is also a buzzer for help.
-Most people report a comfortable, relaxing experience and emerge form the chamber feeling refreshed.
-This therapy is non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical, and there are no dangerous side effects reported. |
| |
How does it work?
-The mild hyperbaric chamber is filled with compresses ambient air from 2 to 4.5 pounds per square inch. (1.3 ATA max) This is the equivalent of 11 feet below sea level.
-The increased pressure allows the blood plasma and other liquids of the body to absorb additional oxygen thus greatly increasing oxygen uptake by the cells, tissues, glands, organs, brain, and fluids of the body.
-The resulting uptake of oxygen allows for increased circulation to areas with swelling or inflammation. At the same time, the increased pressure decreases swelling and inflammation.
-Oxygen is then utilized by the body for vital cell functions, healthier cells equals healthier tissues, and organs.
-The human body is capable of healing itself when it has what it needs. There is NOTHING the human body needs more than OXYGEN. |
| |
Why does it work?
-An increase in atmospheric pressure allows for more gas to be dissolved into any given liquid.
-Oxygen, the 8th element on the Periodic Table, exists as a gas at room temperature.
-Gas… under pressure…dissolves in water. |
| |
Are there any side effects?
- No dangerous side effects have been reported with Mild Hyperbaric Therapy.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing for your first session in a chamber:
---Some people experience a mild discomfort to the ears when pressurizing the chamber, not unlike during the ascending part of an airplane.
---Some people following their first few sessions experience slight fatigue as the body sweeps itself clear of toxic debris that has built up in the body. This is safe and necessary.
---It is advisable that you wear comfortable, loose clothing. (Pantyhose and other tight garments may contribute to feelings of claustrophobia.) Bring something to read, as the sessions last about 60 minutes. You may want to bring a favorite cd, dvd player, portable game, etc.
---Do not drink large amounts of fluids before entering the chamber.
---Do not wear perfume or cologne when you are coming for your session. |
| |
What can I expect to happen during my session?
-The chamber will seem smaller when deflated than it is when fully pressurized. Within one minute the chamber will inflate completely, allowing enough room for an adult to sit upright or lie fully extended.
-After the chamber inflates, it will begin to pressurize. This is the time when you may experience pressure in your ears. The easiest way to relieve any discomfort this may cause is to equalize your ears using one or more of the following methods:
---Close your mouth and firmly clamp your nose shut with your fingers and thumb. Blow, as if you were blowing your nose, but keep nose and mouth closed. You will feel the air come out through your ears when you have done this procedure correctly, and this should relieve the pressure.
---Yawn. Stretching your mouth as wide as possible, even stretching your tongue out. This will cause the sinus passages surrounding your ears to drain and relieve the pressure.
---If you are the parent of a small child who is having trouble with their ears during pressurization, try massaging the area just below the ears and right behind the jaw. A baby still on the bottle or pacifier should be given either of these, but if your child is likely to spill drinks in the chamber please try to monitor them with liquids.
---Sit upright. Turn your head completely to the right, then completely to the left. Repeat earlier steps until the ears are cleared. |
| |
How long does a session last?
-The session last around 60 minutes. |
| |
What can I do during my hyperbaric session?
-Listen to music, (we have CD players and a selection of music, or you may bring your own)
-Talk on your cell phone.
-Play handheld games.
-Watch movies on portable DVD player.
-Work on laptop computer.
-Read books or magazines. |
| |
Are there any reasons a person should NOT go into the chamber?
Yes. You should NOT go into the chamber if you are inebriated (drunk), if you have ear canal problems or an ear infection, if you are experiencing flu or cold symptoms, or if you are wearing perfume or cologne. |
| |
How frequently should I schedule my sessions?
We will make a recommendation for you based on your needs after an initial evaluation. |
| |
How does chiropractic work?
Your body is a self-healing, self-regulating
organism controlled by your nervous system. Millions of instructions
flow from your brain, down the spinal cord and out to every organ and
tissue. Signals sent back to the brain confirm if your body is
working correctly. Improper motion or position of the moving bones of
the spine, called a subluxation, can interfere with this vital
exchange by irritating nerves and compromising the function of
affected organs and tissues. Specific chiropractic spinal adjustments can help
improve mind/body communications. Health often returns with improved
nervous system control of the body. |
| |
Do I have a slipped disc?
Between each pair of spinal bones is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring
holds in a jelly-like material. This soft center serves as a “ball
bearing” for joint movement. Because of the way it attaches to the
spinal bone above and below it, a disc can’t actually “slip.”
However, a disc can bulge. It can tear. It can herniate. It can
thin. It can dry out. And it can collapse. But it can’t slip. |
| |
Do I have a pinched nerve?
A pinched nerve is rare. It is more likely that an adjacent spinal
bone irritates, stretches, rubs or chafes a nerve. These
subluxations distort the nerve messages sent between the brain and
body. This can produce unhealthy alterations to the organs and
tissues connected by the affected nerves. |
| |
How do you get subluxations?
There are three basic causes of subluxations. 1) Physical causes
include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions and improper
lifting.
2) Emotions such as grief, anger and fear can cause
subluxations. 3) Chemical causes could include alcohol, drugs,
pollution and poor diet. |
| |
How do I know if I have a subluxation?
You can have subluxations and not even know it. Like the early
stages of tooth decay or cancer, subluxations can be present before
warning signs appear. The results of a thorough examination can show
the location and severity of subluxations you may have. |
| |
Can subluxations clear up on their own?
Sometimes. Today’s hectic lifestyles are a constant source of
subluxations. Fortuntaley, our bodies have the ability to
self-correct many of these problems as we bend and stretch, or when
we sleep at night. When subluxations don’t resolve themselves, you need to see
a chiropractic doctor! |
| |
What’s an adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust that helps
add motion to spinal joints that aren’t moving correctly. Some methods
use the doctor’s hands, an instrument, a special table or the force
of gravity. There are many ways to adjust the spine. |
| |
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes. A New Zealand government study found that adjustments are
“remarkably safe.” Infact, adjustments are about 100 times safer than
taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. By avoiding drugs and risky surgery, chiropractic
care boasts an excellent track record. A thorough exam can identify
the rare person for whom chiropractic care might be unsuitable.
Compare the statistics. |
| |
Will adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are “locked up” receive
adjustments. This allows weakened muscles and ligaments to stabilize
and heal. |
| |
Can the bones move too much?
Highly unlikely. A chiropractic adjustment is specialized. It has the
right amount of energy, delivered to the exact spot, at a precise
angle, at just the right time. The intent is to get a “stuck” spinal
joint moving again, helping to reduce nerve interference. Years of
training, practice and experience make chiropractic adjustments
specific and safe. |
| |
What makes the popping or cracking sound during the adjustment?
Lubricating fluids separate the bones of each spinal joint. Some
adjusting methods can produce a sound when the gas and fluids in the
joint shift. It’s much like opening a bottle of champagne or
removing a suction cup. The sound is interesting, but it isn’t a
guide to the quality or value of the adjustment. |
| |
Are all patients adjusted the same way?
No. Each patient’s spine and care plan is unique. With 24 moving
bones in the spine, each of which can move in seven different
directions, we see a wide variety of spinal patterns. Each patient’s
care is custom-tailored for his or her age, condition and health
goals. |
| |
Can I adjust myself?
No. Some people can make their joints “pop,” but that’s not an
adjustment! Worse, damage can occur by mobilizing a joint with
weakened muscles and ligaments. Adjustments are specific and take
years to master. Even your chiropractic doctor must consult another chiropractor for an adjustment to benefit from chiropractic care. |
| |
How many adjustments will I need?
The number of adjustments varies with each patient and his or her
individual health goals. Many patients experience progress within a week
or two of frequent visits. Visits become less often as your spine
stabilizes. In chronic cases, complete healing can take months or
even years. |
| |
Why do newborns get adjustments?
Even today’s “natural” childbirth methods can affect an infant’s
spine. Preliminary studies suggest that colic, unusual crying, poor
appetite, ear infections or erratic sleeping habits can be signs of
spinal distress. Pediatric adjustments are gentle. Knowing exactly
where to adjust, the doctor applies no more pressure than you’d use
to test the ripeness of a tomato. |
| |
Can I have chiropractic care after back surgery?
Yes. Rest assured that your chiropractic doctor will avoid the
surgically modified areas of your spine. Surgery often causes
instability above or below the involved level. These areas will be
the focus of your chiropractic care. |
| |
Can patients with osteoporosis get chiropractic care?
Of course. When developing a care plan, your chiropractic doctor
considers the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many
ways to adjust the spine. The method selected will be best suited to
your age, size and condition. |
| |
How long until I’ll feel better?
Some patients experience almost instant relief. Others discover it
can take many weeks or months. Many factors can affect the healing
process. How long have you had the problem? Are you keeping your
appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and
nutrition? Do you smoke? Are you otherwise in good condition?
Within a short period of time, most patients sense enough progress to
full carry out their doctors’ recommendations. |
| |
How long will I need chiropractic care?
After patients get the relief they want, many choose to continue with
some type of periodic care. These patients show up to their
appointment feeling great. These visits can help support the final
stages of healing and help detect and resolve new problems before
they become serious. Our job is to offer the very best care and your
job is to decide how much of it you want. |
| |
Will I receive any medication for my pain?
No. Chiropractic doctors don’t prescribe or dispense drugs. Because we rely on
natural methods, we can show you how to use ice or heat to control painful
symptoms. When properly applied, ice or heat can have an analgesic effects
without the unhealthly side effects of pain medications. |
| |
Why don’t medical practitioners and chiropractic doctors get along?
That’s changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to
research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. Attitudes are
slow to change. However, as the public demands alternatives to drugs
and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their
patients to our office. |
| |
What if my policy doesn’t cover chiropractic?
Your health affects everything you do and everyone you know. It is
your most valuable possession. Yet, each of us is free to place a

| |
Will I ever be normal again?
Patient results vary. Many report improved spinal curves and the
total resumption of their normal lifestyles. Those who neglected or
delayed seeking care often see slower progress. After improvement,
many patients discover that periodic chiropractic checkups can help
avoid a relapse. |
| |
